Description of Research
Our laboratory is primarily interested in immune receptors and the signaling mechanisms by which they alter cell function. The laboratory has recently identified TIM-2 on B cell, particularly germinal center B cells, and has shown that it is an endocytosing receptor for H-ferritin. We have shown that another receptor, TREM-2, which is expressed on immature dendritic cells, binds broadly to bacteria. TREM-2 activates Syk tyrosine kinase through an adapter protein, DAP12. The laboratory is currently studying the mechanisms by which TREM-2 subsequently alters cell function.
